A 19-year-old man, Salvatore
Calvaruso, has been arrested for allegedly killing three young
men and wounding two other people in a shooting in the town of
Monreale, near Palermo, on the night between Saturday and
Sunday, sources said on Monday.
Calvaruso initially admitted being the killer in a "spontaneous
declaration" but then used the right to remain silent in the
presence of a prosecutor, meaning the confession is not valid
to be used in court as things stand.
The shooting took place after a fight thought to have been
caused by "futile motives".
